Signature of nonadiabatic coupling in excited-state vibrational modes.

چکیده
Using analytical excited-state gradients, vibrational normal modes have been calculated at the minimum of the electronic excited-state potential energy surfaces for a set of extended conjugated molecules with different coupling between them. Molecular model systems composed of units of polyphenylene ethynylene (PPE), polyphenylenevinylene (PPV), and naphthacene/pentacene (NP) have been considered. In all cases except the NP model, the influence of the nonadiabatic coupling on the excited-state equilibrium normal modes is revealed as a unique highest frequency adiabatic vibrational mode that overlaps with the coupling vector. This feature is removed by using a locally diabatic representation in which the effect of NA interaction is removed. Comparison of the original adiabatic modes with a set of vibrational modes computed in the locally diabatic representation demonstrates that the effect of nonadiabaticity is confined to only a few modes. This suggests that the nonadiabatic character of a molecular system may be detected spectroscopically by identifying these unique state-specific high frequency vibrational modes.

Quantized time correlation function approach to nonadiabatic decay rates in condensed phase: application to solvated electrons in water and methanol.
A new, alternative form of the golden rule formula defining the nonadiabatic transition rate between two quantum states in condensed phase is presented. The formula involves the quantum time correlation function of the energy gap, of the nonadiabatic coupling, and their cross terms. Those quantities can be inferred from their classical counterparts, determined via molecular dynamics simulations...

This work presents a nonadiabatic molecular dynamics study of the nonradiative decay of photoexcited trans-azomethane, using the ab initio multiple spawning (AIMS) program that has been interfaced with the General Atomic and Molecular Electronic Structure System (GAMESS) quantum chemistry package for on-the-fly electronic structure evaluation. The interface strategy is discussed, and the capabi...
متن کاملVibrational motions associated with primary processes in bacteriorhodopsin studied by coherent infrared emission spectroscopy.
The primary energetic processes driving the functional proton pump of bacteriorhodopsin take place in the form of complex molecular dynamic events after excitation of the retinal chromophore into the Franck-Condon state. These early events include a strong electronic polarization, skeletal stretching, and all-trans-to-13-cis isomerization upon formation of the J intermediate. The effectiveness ...
متن کاملAnalysis of state-specific vibrations coupled to the unidirectional energy transfer in conjugated dendrimers.
The nonadiabatic excited-state molecular dynamics (NA-ESMD) method and excited-state instantaneous normal modes (ES-INMs) analyses have been applied to describe the state-specific vibrations that participate in the unidirectional energy transfer between the coupled chromophores in a branched dendrimeric molecule. Our molecule is composed of two-, three-, and four-ring linear poly(phenyleneethyn...
متن کاملThe highly excited C - H stretching states of CHD 3 , CHT 3 , and CH 3 D
Unlike many other molecules having local modes, the highly excited C-H stretching states of CHD3 show well resolved experimental spectra and simple Fermi resonance behavior. In this paper the local mode features in this prototype molecule are examined using a curvilinear coordinate approach. Theory and experiment are used to identify the vibrational state coupling. Both kinetic and potential te...
